Demna led Balenciaga from 7 October 2015 to 9 July 2025. During that decade, collaboration became one of the house's design methods: an ordinary clog became couture-scale footwear, a video game became a runway presentation, a grocery store became a luxury souvenir, and the logos of Gucci and Balenciaga were made to interfere with each other.
This guide records 44 dated Demna-era collaborations and related projects, beginning with Colette in June 2017 and ending with Britney Spears in June 2025. That number includes separate phases of the long-running Crocs partnership, the Balenciaga Music editions, formal licences, approved insignia uses such as NASA, sponsorships, charity projects, and one Supreme collection that was shown but cancelled.
A 45th entry, Balenciaga | PUBG, launched four months after Demna left but translated looks from his Winter 2025 ready-to-wear and Couture 52 collections into game items. It appears in the chronology as a marked post-tenure continuation rather than disappearing into a footnote.
The Complete Chronological List
The date is the first public showing or release, not necessarily the worldwide retail date. Repeat partners are grouped when they formed one continuing programme, except for Crocs, whose three major phases produced distinct collections.

*PUBG launched after Demna's departure and is included because the project directly reused his Balenciaga collections.
The list is deliberately broader than “fashion collaborations.” It includes formal creative partners, licensors, approved identity programmes, platforms, institutions, and commissioned makers when the relationship materially shaped a Balenciaga product or presentation. The type of relationship still matters: NASA approved use of its identity but did not co-design Fall 2021, a Kering Eyewear licence is not the same kind of authorship as Gucci's Hacker Project, and a National Children's Alliance funding commitment is not a product collaboration.
The Collaborations That Defined the Decade
| Partnership | Why it mattered |
|---|---|
| Crocs | Turned a cheap, familiar moulded object into exaggerated luxury footwear and returned to it across several seasons |
| Vibram | Supplied the segmented five-toe construction that became part of Balenciaga's later footwear vocabulary |
| Gucci | The only reciprocal house-to-house project, with each brand altering the other's codes |
| NASA | Gave the Fall 2021 Space collection its most recognizable visual system, although NASA approved the marks rather than co-designing the clothes |
| Fortnite, Afterworld, and PUBG | Treated gaming as a runway alternative, retail platform, and later archive for Demna-era looks |
| adidas | The broadest conventional sportswear capsule of the tenure |
| Balenciaga Music | Made the continuing collaboration format a playlist, merchandise programme, and occasional commission |
| Under Armour, Dr. Scholl's, and Puma | Closed the decade by translating specialist sports and comfort-footwear systems into Balenciaga proportions |
The pattern is more consistent than the partner list first appears. Demna repeatedly chose an object or visual system that already carried a strong social meaning—a Crocs clog, a football jersey, a PS5 logo, an eBay receipt, an Erewhon tote—and changed its scale, material, price, or context. Recognition came first; distortion supplied the design.
Footwear Was the Spine of the Programme
Crocs: one partnership, several distinct phases
The first Balenciaga Crocs appeared at the Spring 2018 show on 1 October 2017. It raised the Classic clog onto an approximately 10-centimetre platform and covered it with Balenciaga-branded Jibbitz. The $850 shoe sold out, but its real importance was methodological: the collaboration kept the source product visibly intact instead of disguising it as conventional luxury footwear.
Balenciaga returned to Crocs for Spring 2022 with a stiletto clog and $695 knee-high EVA rain boot. The bolted, roughly 110-millimetre HardCrocs followed in February 2022, alongside later Pool Slides and a 2024 Anatomic Mule combining Crocs construction with Balenciaga's five-toe foot shape. A resale listing described only as “Balenciaga x Crocs” can therefore belong to several different seasons; the silhouette matters more than the shared branding.
Vibram: the collaboration behind the toe shape
Vibram and Balenciaga showed the Toe sneaker in February 2020 for Fall 2020. Its recycled-knit sock upper sat over a segmented five-finger sole. A leather Toe Bootie followed for Pre-Fall 2021 at $1,590.
Vibram is less famous than Crocs in the Balenciaga story, but more important to identifying later designs: the articulated toe shape reappeared after the original release and eventually crossed into the Crocs partnership.
adidas: the largest sportswear capsule
Balenciaga teased adidas in May 2022 and presented the full project at the Spring 2023 show inside the New York Stock Exchange. The 33-piece capsule reached retail on 3 November 2022, including football jerseys, three-stripe tailoring and tracksuits, a co-branded Triple S and Speed, a distressed Stan Smith, and the Track Forum Low.
adidas paused further launches in December 2022 during the fallout from Balenciaga's advertising controversies. Retail resumed on 20 November 2023 with another group of sneaker styles. Those two dates explain why pieces from one partnership can appear under different retail-year descriptions.
The final footwear partners
Under Armour debuted as an eight-piece capsule during the Shanghai Spring 2025 show on 30 May 2024. The full Balenciaga | Under Armour Series followed that November with reversible sportswear, co-branded Runner and 3XL sneakers, the Hyper, and a hoodie that converted into a shoulder bag. Prices ran from $150 to $3,750.
Dr. Scholl's reached retail in April 2025 after appearing with the Fall 2025 pre-collection. The shoes kept the partner's functional elements visible: concealed cork footbeds inside Nappa mules and boots, exposed cork on calfskin sandals, the metal buckle associated with the 1956 Pescura, and beechwood platform clogs. The range ran from $575 to $1,750.
Puma was the last footwear launch of Demna's tenure. Fifteen Speedcat variations appeared at the Winter 2025 show on 9 March 2025 and reached retail on 20 June. They included distressed suede, laceless leather, and satin ballerina versions, alongside apparel and a Dyneema shopper.
Gucci Was the Only House-to-House Exchange
The Hacker Project began when Alessandro Michele incorporated Balenciaga codes into Gucci's Aria collection in April 2021. Demna's reciprocal collection arrived on 15 November through 74 pop-ups and both houses' online stores.
This was not a guest logo placed on a Balenciaga basic. Jackie and City bag shapes were combined, the two monograms occupied the same luggage, Balenciaga's BB appeared on Gucci-derived outerwear, and “This is not a Gucci bag” was sprayed across selected pieces. Because both companies redesigned and sold the products, the Hacker Project remains different from every licence and platform partnership elsewhere in the list.
Characters, Games, and Entertainment
Hello Kitty appeared first. Sanrio's character was built into the Ville bag for Spring 2020, shown on 29 September 2019. The face, ears, and bow became part of the bag, while Triple S shoelaces formed the whiskers. Pink, white, and black versions reached sale in January 2020.
NASA gave Fall 2021 its visual language
The NASA insignia was one of the defining images of Balenciaga's Fall 2021 Space collection. Parkas, puffers, bombers, T-shirts, hoodies, bags, caps, socks, and scarves carried marks drawn from different eras of the space agency. In Balenciaga's own account, the mixed logos suggested retro astronaut clothing viewed from an imagined future; the oversized Space Parka made that idea literal by turning a spacesuit into outerwear.
The clothes first appeared inside Afterworld in December 2020 and reached retail in June 2021. They deserve a place in the main history because NASA's identity organized a substantial part of the collection, not just one novelty item. The relationship still needs the right name: NASA's merchandise rules allow approved use of its identifiers but state that the agency does not co-brand or enter licensing agreements. This was an approved insignia programme rather than a collection co-designed by NASA. Balenciaga's Fall 2021 collection page describes the role of the archive logos directly.
The licensed PlayStation 5 capsule followed in June 2021 with T-shirts, a hoodie, a cap, and socks. The products used PlayStation lettering and controller-button geometry rather than redesigning Sony hardware. Two months later, Marvel supplied the Hulk for Winter 2021 apparel and bags priced from $495 to $1,950. No other Marvel character received a Balenciaga capsule during Demna's tenure.
With Fortnite, Balenciaga crossed between digital and physical retail. Epic Games released character outfits, accessories, an emote, a glider, and a Speed Sneaker pickaxe on 20 September 2021, while Balenciaga sold caps, hoodies, and denim using the same project. It was Epic's first luxury-fashion partnership.
The Simpsons occupied the role of the Spring 2022 show itself. The ten-minute David Silverman film premiered at the Théâtre du Châtelet on 2 October 2021 and was followed by adult and children's merchandise.
Afterworld: The Age of Tomorrow went further by replacing a runway presentation with a playable browser game. Streamline Media Group and volumetric-capture studio Dimension built the Unreal Engine world for Fall 2021, with around fifty scanned characters wearing the collection. The collaboration was the presentation rather than a co-branded product.
The China release of Need for Speed Mobile on 11 July 2024 combined both models. Players received Balenciaga liveries, clothing, and access to a virtual district containing a replica flagship; an eight-piece physical capsule embedded NFC chips that unlocked an in-game skin. The clothing was restricted to selected Chinese channels, while the game content later expanded internationally.
PUBG carried Demna's collections past his departure
Balenciaga | PUBG launched on 14 November 2025, four months after Demna left the house. It belongs in this guide because its main digital looks came directly from his Balenciaga work: the Couture Armor adapted the 3D-printed armour from Couture 52, while other outfits reproduced Winter 2025 snow looks.
The first phase ran in PUBG MOBILE through 14 December, adding upgradeable Balenciaga backpacks, Invisible Rectangle sunglasses, a Faux Fur helmet, a parachute, profile items, “Space Gift” effects, and a World of Wonder map featuring the Balenciaga snowboard. A physical capsule of T-shirts, caps, and keychains reached selected Balenciaga stores and regional online shops, and the project appeared at PUBG UNITED 2025. The announcement covered both PUBG MOBILE and PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS, with the latter's content scheduled to be revealed separately. These details come from the publishers' joint launch announcement.
PUBG is therefore not a collaboration released under Demna's directorship. It is the clearest example of his completed collection imagery becoming the raw material for a later Balenciaga partnership.
Balenciaga Music Was a Continuing Collaboration Format
Balenciaga Music began in 2021 by pairing an artist-curated Apple Music playlist with merchandise. Some editions added a new recording, artwork, or institutional component, so it should be understood as a programme rather than nine unrelated logo capsules.
| Artist | First release | What distinguished it |
|---|---|---|
| Rammstein | Apr 2021 | First Balenciaga Music edition |
| RuPaul | Jun 2021 | Playlist and merchandise |
| Aya Nakamura | Mar 2022 | Playlist and merchandise |
| Acid Arab | May 2022 | Fluorescent-green capsule using Arabic and Roman scripts |
| Pink Martini | Sep 2022 | Playlist and merchandise |
| Angelo Badalamenti | Feb 2024 | Handwritten “Torch Them” score and Manhattan School of Music partnership |
| Rick Rubin | 2024 | “Festival of the Sun” playlist linked to a solstice event |
| Mina | Sep 2024 | New song “L'Amore Vero,” sunglasses, and T-shirt |
| Britney Spears | Jun 2025 | Twelve-piece final Demna-era edition with two BFRND remixes |
The Badalamenti relationship began years before its product release. Date the clothing to February 2024, when the posthumous capsule, campaign, and education partnership appeared—not to the earlier creative contact.
Charity, Sponsorship, and Institutional Partnerships
The UN World Food Programme was the longest institutional relationship. Balenciaga introduced it at the Fall 2018 show, then released products from September with a $250,000 donation and 10 percent of each sale price going to the programme. A larger December 2019 capsule raised the share to 20 percent, and a third wave continued in 2021.
The Pride 22 OutRight Action International capsule directed 15 percent of profits to the organization. The July 2022 UNITED24 long-sleeve directed all net profits to the Rebuild Ukraine fund, and Demna became an ambassador for the initiative.
Balenciaga's December 2022 commitment to the National Children's Alliance was a funding relationship announced after the house's advertising controversy, not a product capsule. Stade Rennais F.C., meanwhile, was a sports sponsorship: Balenciaga became the club's official outfitter in September 2022 and later supplied a rainbow-numbered shirt for the International Day Against Homophobia.
These belong in a complete partnership history, but describing all four simply as “collabs” hides meaningful differences in product, authorship, and purpose.
Retailers, Regional Projects, and Design Objects
The smaller projects show how locally specific the programme could become:
| Partner | What made the project distinct |
|---|---|
| Colette | Hosted a June–August 2017 Balenciaga takeover and sold the first partnership product of the tenure, a €595 red Speed Trainer |
| Farfetch | Released more than 110 leather-, fur-, and down-free exclusives in January 2019 using endangered-species graphics in support of the IUCN |
| Bang & Olufsen | Built 20 aluminium Speaker Bags with a lambskin-lined compartment for Couture 51 |
| Tejo Remy | Reworked the 1991 Rag Chair as three bench sizes made from Balenciaga offcuts |
| Erewhon | Supplied the Los Angeles show with a $14 black juice and staff-style souvenir clothing |
| eBay | Provided roughly 1,000 random secondhand show invitations before co-branding an inside-out T-shirt and cap |
| Jacob & Co. | Produced two necklaces, a ring, and a bracelet in diamonds and 18k white gold |
| Ginza Kuroda Touen and Toraya | Made ceramics and limited sweets for the April 2024 Ginza opening |
| Alipay | Put its mark on a China-only ¥4,700 T-shirt during the Shanghai show period |
| Nan Xiang Mu Dou | Served co-branded dim sum, cake, and takeaway packaging around the Shanghai show |
| Automobili Lamborghini | Applied automotive graphics and insignia to Fall 2025 clothing, bags, and dashboard-derived accessories |
The eBay capsule and the Lamborghini range are the two best-represented of these in resale, and both are easy to identify: eBay pieces carry the auction site's four-colour wordmark, while the Lamborghini group uses the marque's shield and automotive typography rather than a Balenciaga logo.
Erewhon is frequently misdated to 2024 because the December 2023 Los Angeles show presented Balenciaga's Fall 2024 collection. The event and first release belong to 2023 even though the collection name points forward.
The Supreme Collection Was Shown but Never Released
A Supreme Box Logo T-shirt appeared in Balenciaga's Spring 2023 runway show in October 2022. Leaked images the following March showed that it belonged to a larger project of approximately ten looks, including oversized varsity outerwear, sweatpants, hoodies, caps, and leather shopping bags carrying both brands.
The collection was cancelled before retail. Neither house published a full explanation, and no commercial release followed. A claimed Balenciaga x Supreme item therefore needs exceptional provenance: a genuine runway or development sample may exist, but an ordinary “retail” example cannot come from an authorized launch that never happened.
What Was Not a Balenciaga Collaboration
Recognition and commentary were part of Demna's method, but resemblance is not the same as a contractual or creative partnership.
| Often described as a collaboration | What it actually was |
|---|---|
| IKEA | The 2017 Arena shopper resembled IKEA's FRAKTA bag; IKEA responded with an advertisement but did not collaborate on the product |
| Lay's | The Summer 2023 chip-bag clutch was a Balenciaga design; no PepsiCo licence has been established |
| Crocs Pollex | Salehe Bembury's separate Crocs collaboration |
| The Football / Soccer Series | Balenciaga's own city-name jerseys, without a club or league partner |
| Ramadan capsules | Regional Balenciaga releases designed in-house |
| Champion, Reebok, Levi's, and Dr. Martens | Demna-era Vetements collaborations, not Balenciaga projects |
| BFRND | A continuing member of Demna's creative circle and show composer, not an external brand collaboration |
| Manolo Blahnik and the NBA | Pierpaolo Piccioli-era Balenciaga projects released after Demna left |
| Balenciaga fragrance | The L'Oréal licence began after Demna's tenure; no Demna-era fragrance launched |
Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga remains a genuine borderline case. Demna's involvement in the 2022 designs is documented, but public reporting does not establish whether the Kering-owned Balenciaga house was a contracting party. The products were not sold through Balenciaga's channels. The same uncertainty applies to the Donda listening-event merchandise marked “Engineered By Balenciaga” in 2021, so neither appears in the main list.
The football game Rematch sits beyond the other boundary. It was teased after Demna left in July 2025 but drew on his Winter 2025 collection. Unlike PUBG, the available project detail is too limited to justify a full entry here.
How to Date a Collaboration Piece
Start with the specific object, not only the partner name. Crocs products span 2017–24, World Food Programme products span 2018–21, and adidas retail occurred in both 2022 and 2023. Silhouette, product code, campaign imagery, and the exact drop are more useful than the shared logo.
Balenciaga's own season names also differ from common runway indexing. The house uses Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter; Vogue Runway files the major shows as Spring or Fall ready-to-wear. Balenciaga Winter 25 is Vogue's Fall 2025 runway, while Balenciaga Fall 25 is the separate pre-collection containing Dr. Scholl's and Lamborghini.
For the information printed on the garment itself, use the Balenciaga label dating guide.

Dr. Scholl's and Lamborghini belong to the Fall 2025 pre-collection, which did not have a runway presentation and therefore does not appear in the gallery table.
Sources and Scope
Balenciaga has not published one collaboration archive. The chronology was reconstructed from Balenciaga product and collection material; announcements from Epic Games, Unreal Engine, Kering Eyewear, PUBG's publishers, and the named institutions; runway records; and contemporaneous reporting by Vogue, WWD, Hypebeast, Highsnobiety, Dezeen, Complex, nss, and FashionNetwork.
Where an announcement, runway appearance, and retail launch occurred on different dates, the table uses the first public showing or release. Prices are launch prices reported for representative products, not present resale values. The boundary is Demna's tenure rather than design authorship after departure: his Spring 2026 ready-to-wear and Couture 54 collections are included, while projects first released under Pierpaolo Piccioli are not.
