Choose Homme Plissé Issey Miyake pants by height and the length you want, then check the waist. The pleated fabric gives the waist and hips some flexibility, while the finished trouser length still varies by size and cut.

On Issey Miyake's body chart, size 2 is intended for a height of 171–176 cm and a 78 cm waist. Size 3 covers 177–182 cm and an 82 cm waist. Those figures describe the wearer; the measurements on an individual product page describe the garment.

2171–176 cm78 cm94 cm92 cm
3177–182 cm82 cm98 cm96 cm
4183–188 cm86 cm102 cm100 cm

These body measurements are published in the official US size chart and UK size guide. Issey Miyake also notes that sizing can vary between styles, so this table is the starting point rather than a substitute for the product measurements.

Body Measurements and Garment Measurements

The body chart and a product chart may show different waist figures because they measure different things.

For example, the official BASICS pants product page lists these approximate garment measurements:

SizeGarment waistTotal lengthInseam
170 cm95 cm68 cm
274 cm98 cm70 cm
378 cm101 cm72 cm

The waist figures are about 4 cm below the corresponding body-waist recommendations. Read the first table as the body each size is designed to fit and the second as the dimensions of this particular BASICS cut. The pleated waistband can expand beyond its relaxed garment measurement.

Product measurements are style-specific. Another pair in the same numbered size may have a different rise, inseam, or total length, so check the chart attached to the exact product before ordering.

How the Pleats Affect Fit

Issey Miyake describes its pleated garments as flexible through the chest, waist, and hips, with only a small change in width between sizes. The accordion pleats open across the body, making the waist and hip fit more forgiving than a non-pleated garment with the same flat measurement.

Length needs separate attention. The finished inseam and total length change by size and by trouser cut. Pleats can open across the body, but they do not add several centimetres to the leg. If a style is too short, a larger size or a longer cut is the practical choice.

How to Choose Between Sizes

Start with the official height band, then compare the product's total length and inseam with trousers you already own.

  • Between two waist sizes: Use height and desired length as the main guide. The elasticated, pleated waist can accommodate some variation.
  • Between two height bands: Choose the smaller size for a shorter, cropped result or the larger size for more length.
  • Wide hips or a fuller seat: Check the body-hip figure as well as the waist. The pleats provide flexibility, but they should hang without pulling open continuously.
  • Buying a new cut: Do not assume that a size 2 in BASICS has the same length as a size 2 in another Homme Plissé series.

The height bands describe the brand's intended fit, not rigid cutoffs. Styling, rise, and the position where you wear the waistband can all change where the hem falls.

Does Homme Plissé Make Size 5?

Issey Miyake's general explanation of pleated sizing describes size 1 as the shortest and size 5 as the longest. The current Homme Plissé body chart above publishes measurements only for sizes 1–4, and many pants product pages offer a smaller subset of those sizes.

A size 5 listing can therefore be valid for a particular pleated product, but there is no size-5 body row to add to this chart. Use the garment measurements on that product page rather than estimating its waist or inseam from the size-4 figures.

Measurements Covered by the Official Charts

The general body chart provides height, waist, hips, and chest for sizes 1–4. It does not provide an inseam, total length, or letter-size conversion. Those details belong to individual product pages when available.

For the most reliable comparison:

  1. Find your height band in the body chart.
  2. Open the exact product page and note its total length and inseam.
  3. Compare those figures with a pair of trousers that fits you well.
  4. Use the waist and hip figures to check that the pleated fabric will sit comfortably.
